The mission of the Arkansas Humanities Council is to promote understanding, appreciation, and use of the humanities in Arkansas. The council emphasizes the importance of humanities in reflecting diverse heritage, traditions, and history, alongside the relevance of humanities in current national conditions.
The Arkansas Humanities Council awards grants through a competitive application process to nonprofit groups and organizations. These grants support the planning, conducting, and evaluation of projects that promote understanding, appreciation, and use of the humanities in Arkansas. Specifically, the council welcomes projects that focus on Arkansas’ prehistory, history, and culture, and emphasize collaboration between humanities scholars and experienced media specialists. Other media projects include, but not limited to, exhibits (in-person or virtual), humanities-based website content, historical signage or markers, podcasts, webinars, or virtual tours.
