The Doctoral Student Clinical Research Grant, also referred to as the Undergraduate/Masters Student Clinical Research Grant competition, is specifically aimed at undergraduate and master's level students from historically underrepresented groups. This initiative by Apraxia Kids seeks to diversify the profession in the field of Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) research, offering up to $5,000 in funding. The grant supports high-quality scientific research that will lead to peer-reviewed publications and is clinically applicable to CAS. Priority is given to research proposals that address early diagnosis and treatment of CAS, treatment approaches incorporating biophysical and behavioral evidence, the whole child perspective (including comorbid conditions and social-emotional aspects), effects of CAS on early phonological awareness and literacy development, the role of perception in speech sound production, prognosis, and child and parent-reported outcome measures. Proposals are encouraged to involve a team member with lived CAS experience, aiming for inclusive research that spans diverse populations in terms of race/ethnicity, socio-economic status, language, age, and comorbidity.
