Since 1988, the Community Foundation of Greater Flint has focused on supporting Flint and Genesee County's future as a 501(c)3 tax-exempt public charity. Created by and for the people of Genesee County, it enables philanthropic support for various issues, either immediately or through estate planning. Originating from the merger of The Flint Public Trust and the Flint Area Health Foundation, it combines the strengths of two institutions to serve the common good.
The Community Impact Fund and grant program of the Community Foundation of Greater Flint prioritize serving the common good with a focus on marginalized populations, community unity, and resource access. The foundation offers grants to nonprofit organizations through a competitive process, aligning with strategic priorities set by the CFGF Board of Trustees. Supported fields include health, youth, beautification and historic preservation, women and girls, and specific geographic areas within Genesee County (Clio, Davison, Fenton, Flushing, Grand Blanc). Grant proposals must target these areas, aiming to address current issues, support charitable youth projects, improve Flint's attractiveness, and advance the participation of women and girls in society.
