The Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation aims to enhance the quality of life in the Duluth Superior region through the establishment and administration of endowed funds created by individuals, families, private foundations, and businesses. Since 1983, it has distributed over $40 million in grants and scholarships, managing more than 360 funds for various charitable purposes.
The Unity Fund grant program supports broad goals of creating a racially just and equitable community, with specific focuses on actions advancing racial equity, engaging community members in efforts to end racism, and creating supportive environments for people of African Heritage. Priorities include programming within safe spaces for expression and sharing, raising awareness of systemic racial inequities, supporting education and leadership development for African Heritage leaders, dismantling racism in systems such as police and housing, and building cross-cultural relationships. Example projects include community events, history projects, art initiatives, sustaining funds for ongoing work, and technical support for funding. Grants range from $5,000 to $10,000 for individual organizations and $5,000 to $25,000 for collaborations, accepted on a rolling basis.
