Overview

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 allocated $200 million from 2022 to 2026 to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s National Fish Passage Program (NFPP). This grant program focuses on removing in-stream barriers, restoring aquatic organism passage, and promoting climate resilient aquatic connectivity in various habitats to benefit Federal trust resources. NFPP prioritizes projects that rebuild sustainable fisheries, aid in the recovery of aquatic trust species, enhance watershed health, and improve economic vitality with an emphasis on aiding disadvantaged communities. It supports a broad range of project types like dam removals, culvert replacements, and floodplain restoration, aligning with Executive Order 14052 to modernize infrastructure and improve community resilience to climate change and other hazards.
