The mission of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is working with others to conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.
The grant program focuses on funding conservation tasks for high priority candidate and other at-risk species in the United States, aiming to reduce or eliminate threats to these species. It promotes cooperative relationships with states, non-governmental organizations, private landowners, and those interested in habitat restoration, research, surveys, monitoring, or educational outreach related to at-risk species. Applicants must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the biology of the candidate or at-risk species and its ecosystem, with a preference for those who have field experience with the species. Participation as a CESU member is a requirement for applicants requesting the use of the CESU 17.5% indirect rate.
