Overview

The 2024 Call for Code Global Challenge encourages students, developers, and problem-solvers from around the world to develop innovative AI technology solutions with IBM Watsonx. This initiative aims to tackle the disparities in access to basic necessities such as clean water, safe housing, education, and fair government representation, with a particular focus on how climate change disproportionately affects women and historically underserved communities. It highlights the potential of generative AI to enhance equality and improve lives by demonstrating responsible AI usage. Competing teams, comprising 1-5 individuals, vie for prizes, including a grand prize of $50,000 USD, with additional rewards for runner-ups and a special university grant. Winners also receive support for solution implementation, open-source support from The Linux Foundation, and for university students, opportunities within IBM. Through participation, entrants can enhance their skills in AI, cloud computing, and other emerging technologies, supported by expert mentors and training resources.

  • Participants must be 18 years old or have reached the age of emancipation in their jurisdiction
  • All team members must meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the Participation Agreement
  • Eligibility may be affected by employment or other contracts
  • University or college students employed by their educational institution are eligible
  • For the Call for Code University prize, all team members must have been enrolled in an accredited institution of higher education during the current Call for Code Global Challenge

Residents of U.S. Embargoed Countries
Areas where the contest is restricted or prohibited by law
Employees, employers, officers, and directors of IBM Group including Red Hat
Government agencies, departments, branches, instrumentalities and public enterprises
Advertising and promotion agencies, and those involved in the preparation, administration, or execution of the contest including David Clark Cause
Immediate family members (parents, children, siblings, spouse including step and foster relations) and individuals living in the same household of Promotion Entities.
