Type of Support

Overview

The Alice Award, established in 2013 by Joan K. Davidson to honor her mother Alice Manheim Kaplan's passion for illustrated books, annually allocates $25,000 to a book that significantly contributes to its field while upholding high production standards. Illustrating a commitment to the preservation and recognition of slow reading and the value of well-made illustrated books as intimate cultural artifacts, this award celebrates works within the fine arts, natural and built environments, and their related public issues. Notably, books previously awarded a Furthermore grant are automatically considered for the Alice Award, highlighting a continuity in support for quality publication projects.
