The mission of the Maine Office of Tourism is to stimulate and expand Maine's travel and tourism economy by coordinating the promotional efforts of the private sector with those of the Maine Office of Tourism itself and its Regional Destination Marketing Organizations.

Overview

The Maine Communities Grant Program aims to provide support to tourism-focused, community-oriented marketing projects and events. In each funding cycle, up to four grants are awarded in each of the eight designated Maine Tourism Regions. These grants offer financial assistance ranging from $2500 to $5000 to aid in the development and execution of projects that promote tourism and community engagement within Maine.

  • Must create/update an online account 14 days before the grant deadline
  • A previous unsatisfactory grant history may disqualify the application
  • Eligible projects include Paid Advertising, Public & Media Relations, Existing Website Upgrades, Asset Development, and Fulfillment
  • All invoicing will be paid on a reimbursement basis only

Ineligibility

Organizations with an existing grant contract in the fiscal year
Projects focused on scholarships
Projects for new websites or hosting services
Fundraising projects like raffles, giveaways, contests
Professional development events like conferences & training
Projects requiring capital equipment or rentals (e.g., fencing, stages)
Projects needing promotional products (e.g., tents, banners, t-shirts, costumes, stickers).

Review Criteria

It is strongly recommended to utilize a blend of monetary funding and non-monetary contributions to develop and implement the most efficient marketing strategy for the project.
