EEA seeks to protect, preserve, and enhance the Commonwealth’s environmental resources while ensuring a clean energy future for the state’s residents. Through the stewardship of open space, protection of environmental resources, and enhancement of clean energy, the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs works tirelessly to make Massachusetts a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family.
This grant program is designed to support municipalities and non-profit groups in Massachusetts with a focus on urban and community forestry management. It aims to encourage local capacity building for the professional management of public tree resources through matching grants, with special consideration for projects in environmental justice neighborhoods. The program supports a range of projects, including the development of citizen advocacy groups, establishment of community wood banks, adoption of tree and forest ordinances, professional staff training, implementation of urban forestry management plans, strategic tree plantings, and care for heritage trees. Each supported project should lead to sustained improvements in urban and community forestry management.
