The Foundation aims to address community issues and needs by supporting projects and organizations that improve the lives of DC-area residents, particularly those who are vulnerable and underserved. It focuses on providing comprehensive services and working towards systemic change to help all individuals become self-sufficient and lead healthy, fulfilling lives. The Foundation values effective partnerships and cultural competence in engaging with diverse communities.
The Foundation's grant program is designed to support work across five main areas: Arts and Humanities, Community Services, Education, Environment, and Health & Wellness. It looks for nonprofits that demonstrate impactful initiatives, engage underrepresented communities, and promote systemic change. Specific areas of interest include access to safe housing and economic development, improving academic performance and employment for youth, ensuring access to justice, workforce development, capacity building for nonprofits, high-quality equitable education, environmental restoration and protection, and comprehensive health and wellness services. The program emphasizes the importance of addressing all levels of an issue and engages with various cultures and socio-economic backgrounds to achieve its goals.
