The U.S. National Science Foundation is an independent federal agency that supports science and engineering in all 50 states and U.S. territories. NSF was established in 1950 by Congress to promote the progress of science, advance the national health, prosperity and welfare, and secure the national defense.
The Methodology, Measurement, and Statistics (MMS) Program emphasizes the advancement of interdisciplinary analytical and statistical methods and models intended for the social, behavioral, and economic sciences. It aims to support research that is methodologically innovative, theoretically grounded, and potentially beneficial across various fields within the social, behavioral, and economic sciences. The program encourages proposals that enhance the production and utilization of official statistics, in partnership with federal statistical agencies. Through its funding mechanisms, the MMS Program supports regular research awards, conferences, community-development activities, doctoral dissertation research improvement grants, research experience for undergraduates, and supplements, in addition to Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) awards.
