The Nevada Governor’s Office of Science, Innovation and Technology (OSIT) aims to expand and enhance STEM education and workforce development in Nevada. Its mission encompasses growing Nevada’s workforce capabilities to align with the evolving demands of its expanding economy by focusing on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
This grant program is dedicated to promoting equitable access to, and enhancing the quality of, STEM programs in elementary schools, to better equip students for successful career pathways in Nevada's innovative economy. It follows four key strategies: increasing the presence of evidence-based, high-quality STEM practices and programs in elementary schools; augmenting hands-on, experiential STEM learning in grades K-5; boosting the hours per week elementary schools dedicate to teaching science; and enhancing interest and achievement in STEM subjects among K-5 students, especially those from traditionally underrepresented demographic groups. The grant offers "Classroom Awards" to individuals and "Program Awards" to schools for the development, implementation, or enhancement of STEM projects and programs, with a focus on one-time costs for durable STEM resources.
