Type of Support

Overview

The National and International Environment Program supports initiatives that seek to mitigate climate change; make communities more resilient to it; protect public health from toxic chemicals and pollutants; and preserve biological diversity. For the national component, it focuses on promoting energy efficiency, shifting to electric vehicles and mass transit, reducing emissions, and making the most disadvantaged communities resilient to climate changes through infrastructure improvements, policy reforms, and emergency planning. It aims to eliminate toxic pollutants, especially for vulnerable populations, and enhance habitat conservation for wildlife. Internationally, the program supports U.S. organizations working on biodiversity protection, environmental health improvement, and greenhouse gas reduction globally. Initiatives that promote smart growth, sustainable agriculture, regional food systems, and sustainable production are encouraged.
