The Northwest Minnesota Arts Council's mission is to develop the arts in Northwestern Minnesota's Region 1 by working with local and area arts organizations and individuals. It aims to foster artistic experiences of high quality by supporting the creation, production, and sponsorship of art activities across various disciplines.

Overview

The Arts Legacy Grants are designed for organizations or individual projects with a strong community focus, primarily funding artistic activity within northwest Minnesota. Supported by the Minnesota State Legislature through the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund, these grants can go up to $10,000 with a required 25% match. Suitable projects include cooperative artist groups needing retail space, artists offering community workshops, and public art projects like murals and sculptures. The grant focuses on projects that significantly benefit local or regional art landscapes, resources, or audiences, requiring completion within 24 months of grant receipt.

  • Project's primary impact must be within the Minnesota counties of Kittson, Marshall, Norman, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake, and Roseau

Ineligibility

Funds are for out of state travel
Funds are for a project that occurs outside Minnesota
Funds requested from both the regional Arts Council and Minnesota State Arts Board for the same work in a single fiscal year without consent
State funds exceed 90% of total project cost
Artists required to pay high entry/exhibition fees
Funds for capital improvement, construction, purchase of real property, or endowments
Projects limited to or only serving educational institutions
Projects begun before specified start date in guidelines
Projects for religious socialization
Organization has an overdue report from a past grant
Funds for non fine arts portions of festivals or art fairs
Activity not open to the public
Publications distributed only to the organization’s members
