Overview

The Program aims to facilitate the development and expansion of very small meat and poultry processing operations. It offers reimbursement grants to support costs related to obtaining USDA Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) inspections, opening new operations, or expanding existing ones. These grants are designed to help meet regulatory requirements and enhance operational capacity, with funding capped at $100,000 per applicant.

  • Must meet the definition of "very small establishment" as described in 9 CFR 381.65(g)(1)(i)
  • Eligible costs include consulting or other technical support services, professional employee training and educational programs, up to 85% of meat or poultry slaughter or processing equipment or supplies, and the purchase of equipment or supplies related to employee safety
  • Costs for planning, erecting, repair or modification of structures or buildings, roofing, or other physical structure improvements are not eligible for reimbursement

Entities seeking reimbursement for wages or salaries
Entities seeking reimbursement for in-kind contributions
Entities seeking funding for parts of the project already covered by another Federal or State grant program.
