The mission is to advance the field of soil science by encouraging research, education, and the application of soil science to address global challenges. It supports the development and sharing of knowledge within the soil science community, fostering innovation and expertise in managing soil health and productivity.
The Soil and Water Conservation Scholarship aims to encourage students to pursue careers in soil and water conservation. It does this by assessing applicants based on their academic achievements in relevant fields, their career goals related to soil and water conservation, any related work experience, their major professor's support, and their vision for the role of soil and water conservation in the future. The scholarship provides a $3,500 stipend to the chosen student and an additional $500 to their major professor or advisor to support mentorship and encourage participation in the scholarship program and attendance at the SSSA Annual Meeting.
