The mission of the Energy Department is to ensure America’s security and prosperity by addressing its energy, environmental and nuclear challenges through transformative science and technology solutions
The $7.49 million Community Energy Innovation Prize represents a concerted effort to advance community-based clean energy initiatives through a competitive award process. This prize, succeeding two previous U.S. Department of Energy prizes, targets efforts that not only foster clean energy innovation but also emphasize environmental, climate, and energy justice. The prize encompasses three tracks: the Clean Energy Ecosystem Track, the Manufacturing Ecosystem Track, and the Collegiate Track, each designed to address distinct aspects of clean energy challenges and opportunities. Competitors are encouraged to engage underserved communities, demonstrate strong community ties, and build bridges to the DOE. The process involves three phases—CONCEPT, PROGRESS, and IMPACT—across which competitors develop their ideas into impactful activities with the potential for significant rewards, including cash prizes, mentorship, and various support services aimed at fostering an inclusive clean energy future.
