Overview

The grant program seeks to accelerate decarbonization within the industrial sector, supporting the Biden Administration's goal towards a clean energy future and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. It targets subsector-specific decarbonization strategies for high-emitting and challenging industrial subsectors. The Energy and Emissions Intensive Industries (EEII) program under IEDO focuses on sectors with significant energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions, including chemicals, refining, iron and steel, cement, concrete, forest and paper products, food and beverage, and other industries like glass and aluminum. The grant will fund high-impact applied research, development, and pilot-stage technology validation and demonstration activities, emphasizing work scopes between technology readiness levels (TRL) 2 and 7, to advance industrial decarbonization technology and economically viable site-specific demonstrations.
