The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is an HHS agency that regulates clinical investigations of products under its jurisdiction, such as drugs, biological products, and medical devices.
This grant program aims to support the development of new animal drugs under the categories of minor uses in major species or for use in minor species (MUMS). The funding is designed to aid in covering expenses associated with the necessary safety and effectiveness testing required for the FDA's approval of such drugs. Eligibility for the grant extends to entities engaged in developing veterinary drugs or those collaborating as research partners on such projects. A prerequisite for applying includes having an Investigational New Animal Drug (INAD) file opened with the FDA/CVM and obtaining a minor use or minor species designation for the drug in question. Additionally, the FDA/CVM's Office of New Animal Drug Evaluation (ONADE) must approve the study protocol before submission.
