The National Institutes of Health (NIH), a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the nation’s medical research agency — making important discoveries that improve health and save lives.
The Avenir Award Program for Research on Substance Abuse and HIV/AIDS is dedicated to supporting early stage investigators proposing innovative studies at the intersection of substance abuse and HIV/AIDS, in line with NIH HIV/AIDS Research Priorities. The program encourages creative and original research with the potential to significantly impact substance-using populations at risk for or living with HIV/AIDS. It aims to fund projects that could lead to a reduction in HIV incidence, enhancements in therapies for HIV, a decrease in the impact of comorbid conditions, and, ultimately, the eradication of HIV. The connection with drug abuse should be clearly articulated in the proposals.
