The National Institutes of Health (NIH), a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the nation’s medical research agency — making important discoveries that improve health and save lives.
The grant aims to enhance HIV/AIDS prevention strategies within alcohol-affected populations by developing and testing new interventions, as well as expanding existing ones. It focuses on integrating effective prevention and treatment interventions, understanding the mechanisms for reducing HIV infection incidence, and enabling cross-cutting research that informs these areas. It highlights the importance of addressing episodic and long-term alcohol use and its related behavioral and biological HIV risks. The project prioritizes research in six areas: PrEP utilization, Treatment as Prevention (TasP), integration of preventive intervention strategies, prevention-related cross-cutting research, Syndemic approaches, and Implementation and Operations Research, targeting diverse settings and populations.
