The National Institutes of Health (NIH), a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the nation’s medical research agency — making important discoveries that improve health and save lives.
The NIH Research Education Program (R25) aims to support educational activities that enhance the training of a workforce to meet the nation's biomedical, behavioral, and clinical research needs, specifically in the areas relevant to the mission of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS). The program focuses on providing research experiences and educational activities designed to foster the development of physicians as research scientists. It aims to prepare clinicians to compete for NIH mentored career development awards or independent research awards by engaging them in research experiences and educational activities, including an annual workshop for networking and discussing career progression. This initiative is intended to facilitate the transition of residents and fellows to physician-scientists, thereby retaining a group of professionals who will conduct significant research into neurological diseases' mechanisms, etiology, and treatment.
