This grant program aims to provide affordable funding for the development of essential community facilities in rural areas. Eligible areas include rural cities, villages, townships, towns, and Federally Recognized Tribal Lands with no more than 20,000 residents. Funds may be used for a variety of purposes including purchasing, constructing, improving essential community facilities, buying equipment, and paying related expenses. Facilities supported encompass health care, public facilities, community support services, public safety services, educational services, utility services, and local food systems. Grant assistance is given on a graduated scale based on community size and median household income, with a maximum of 75 percent funding for smaller, lower-income communities, and a minimum of 15 percent for larger eligible communities.
