Type of Support

Overview

This program offers grants to qualified organizations to support local self-help housing construction projects. Specifically, it assists very-low- and low-income individuals and families in rural areas to build their own homes through a mutual effort. Participants engage in most of the construction labor for each other's homes under the technical guidance of the overseeing organization. The grants may be utilized to provide technical and supervisory assistance to the families involved, assist other organizations in offering similar support, recruit families, aid in loan application processes, and facilitate other activities essential for participation. Eligible areas for these projects can be determined using the USDA Eligibility Site.
