Type of Support

Overview

This grant program provides funding to qualified organizations to assist in the execution of local self-help housing construction projects. It aims to supervise groups of very-low- and low-income individuals and families in rural areas engaging in the mutual construction of their own homes. The core of this initiative is to enable these families to contribute most of the construction labor under the technical guidance of the overseeing organization. This approach not only facilitates access to housing but also promotes community engagement and self-sufficiency. Eligible areas for the projects can be determined through the USDA Eligibility Site, ensuring the focus on rural communities. The funds may be used for a variety of purposes including providing technical and supervisory assistance, helping families with loan applications, and supporting other organizations in offering self-help technical assistance.
