Overview

This grant program aims to provide technical assistance and training to small and emerging rural businesses. To qualify, businesses must have fewer than 50 new workers and less than $1 million in gross revenue. The program prioritizes smaller grant requests and does not require cost-sharing. Grants can be used for a wide range of purposes including training and technical assistance, acquisition or development of land, construction and renovation activities, pollution control, the capitalization of revolving loan funds, distance learning for job training, rural transportation improvement, community economic development, and various forms of economic and strategic planning. Opportunity grants specifically support community economic development, technology-based economic development, feasibility studies and business plans, leadership and entrepreneurship training, business incubators, and long-term strategic planning.
