From Washington State Department of Commerce

The Department of Commerce is the one agency in state government that touches every aspect of community and economic development: planning, infrastructure, energy, public facilities, housing, public safety and crime victims, international trade, business services and more. Overview

The Tribal Clean Energy Grants program aims to allocate approximately $16 million exclusively to tribes to support the planning, design, and construction of clean energy projects. These projects are intended to promote tribal sovereignty, advance resiliency, and contribute to Washington’s decarbonization goals. Guided by the objectives of the 2021 Washington State Energy Strategy and the HEAL Act, this funding prioritizes projects that benefit tribal communities by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, accelerating the achievement of state clean energy and climate goals, enhancing tribal sovereignty and resilience, and demonstrating innovative approaches to decarbonization. The primary goal is to support clean energy projects in Washington that provide a public benefit to the state. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis starting from February 15, 2024, until funds are depleted, with Commerce reviewing applications and making awards at least twice.
