The West Virginia Humanities Council aims to support and promote public humanities programming for audiences in West Virginia. Through their efforts, they facilitate understanding and appreciation of the humanities, encompassing a wide range of disciplines, to foster a deep sense of the human condition, heritage, and the relevance of humanities in contemporary society.
The grant program aims to support small projects, events, lectures, museum exhibits, brochures, consultation needs, and planning for more complex projects with a focus on the humanities. These include areas such as language, literature, history, philosophy, ethics, and more, with a particular attention to diverse heritage and relevance to current national conditions. Projects must involve a humanities scholar to offer informed oversight on content and context. Supported projects have included author workshops, museum exhibits, and cultural trails.
