The Puget Sound Chapter of the American Cetacean Society (ACS) focuses on the protection of whales, dolphins, and porpoises both locally and worldwide. Formed in the summer of 1999 and based in Seattle, it has grown to include members from Washington, Oregon, Alaska, and Idaho.
The Student Research Grant Program by the ACS Puget Sound Chapter offers funding for independent studies in the field of cetacean research. Since 2000, it has awarded grants to support students conducting critical research on whales, dolphins, and porpoises. The program aims to have $2000 available each year to assist two to four students in their efforts to protect these marine species.
