ASAB was founded in 1936 with the mission to promote the study of animal behaviour. It aims to foster a diverse and inclusive community within its membership and the wider animal behaviour research community. ASAB seeks fair and equitable participation and representation, welcoming members regardless of characteristics such as age, disability, ethnicity, gender, and sexuality.
The ASAB Research Grants are designed to support promising pilot research projects and small-scale studies in the field of animal behaviour that are too early in development to attract funding from larger sources or are unlikely to find alternative funding. The grants, which can reach up to £10,000, cover various expenses, including equipment, research costs, salaries, and travel for collaborators or research at another site. The grants aim to fund high-quality proposals that demonstrate relevance, potential impact, a clear methodology, and a justification of the funding requested. All areas of animal behaviour research are considered, reflecting the spectrum of interest shown in the publications of Animal Behaviour.
