From American Orthopaedic Society For Sports Medicine

The mission of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) focuses on advancing the science and practice of orthopaedic sports medicine through research, education, and patient care.

Type of Support

Overview

The grant program offered by AOSSM seeks to support early career Principal Investigators in orthopaedic sports medicine by providing a research grant of up to $40,000. This funding can be allocated towards either a clinical research project or a basic science research project within the field. The primary goal of this grant is to foster the development of early career surgeons to become proficient principal investigators in conducting meaningful research in orthopaedic sports medicine. This entails encouraging these investigators to take the lead in all aspects of their project, from hypothesis generation to experiment design, execution, and result interpretation. The program is designed not only to support new projects but also to ensure that these early career investigators receive constructive feedback from the AOSSM Research Committee through a required pre-proposal review process. This feedback aims to refine the project’s specific aims and research strategy, enhancing the overall quality and impact of the proposed research. Any research topic within orthopaedic sports medicine is eligible for consideration, with preference given to topics aligned with the AOSSM Research Agenda. Additionally, while this is a one-time, non-renewable award, it provides substantial support and resources over a 24-month period to aid in the successful completion of the research project. Eligibility for this grant requires AOSSM membership with at least one member of the investigative team being in good standing with the organization.
