The American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) aims to spearhead advancements in human genetics and genomics research and its applications. Established in 1948, it supports new discoveries and applications in the field through leading research, education, and service. The ASHG annually gathers a large community at its meetings and contributes to scholarly communication through its journal.
The ASHG Education Award aims to honor outstanding contributions to human genetics education. This accolade is bestowed upon individuals whose work is nationally or internationally recognized as exceptionally influential and of paramount importance to the field. Ideal candidates have a long history of engagement in genetics education across multiple areas, with contributions that have notably impacted individuals and/or organizations. A strong commitment to diversity and inclusivity is also crucial. Suitable contributions may include influential writings, the development of widely adopted curriculums or teaching programs, authorship of widely used textbooks, or the creation of educational websites. The award includes a plaque and a monetary prize of $10,000, presented during the ASHG Annual Meeting.
