The American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) aims to spearhead advancements in human genetics and genomics research and its applications. Established in 1948, it supports new discoveries and applications in the field through leading research, education, and service. The ASHG annually gathers a large community at its meetings and contributes to scholarly communication through its journal.
The ASHG Scientific Achievement Award recognizes exceptional scientific work in the field of human genetics made over the past decade. Eligible contributions can either be a significant singular discovery or a series of related works. Importantly, these contributions should have notably influenced the scientific direction of human genetics and inspired other scientists. Recipients are honored with a plaque, a monetary award of $10,000, and an opportunity to publish their presentation in The American Journal of Human Genetics. The award evaluates candidates based on their unique scientific achievements as independent investigators, while also considering periods of research hiatus due to personal reasons.
