The American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) aims to spearhead advancements in human genetics and genomics research and its applications. Established in 1948, it supports new discoveries and applications in the field through leading research, education, and service. The ASHG annually gathers a large community at its meetings and contributes to scholarly communication through its journal.
The ASHG Trainee Research Excellence Award recognizes outstanding research conducted by predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees, including genetic counseling trainees. The award is merit-based, focusing on competitive abstracts submitted and presented at the ASHG Annual Meeting. With a total annual value of approximately $70,000, the awards support exceptional trainee research in human genetics, aiming to foster the next generation of leaders in the field. About 60 semifinalists receive $750 and complimentary Annual Meeting registration, 18 finalists receive an additional $250, and six winners are awarded an additional $1,000 each.
