The Atkinson Foundation aims to provide those in San Mateo County the opportunity to reach their fullest potential in education, social, and economic aspects. It supports initiatives that encourage independence, self-sufficiency, and an overall improvement in quality of life.

Overview

The grant program by the Atkinson Foundation focuses on enhancing the educational, social, and economic life in San Mateo County. It prioritizes community-based and led organizations targeting specified needs like education (both in-school and out-of-school programs), early childhood care, vocational education, community support including basic needs, health services, senior programs, immigrant/refugee assistance, and women’s services to foster a healthy, self-sufficient, and improved community life.

  • Grants are one-year grants
  • Returning grantees must apply for the same grantmaking round as the previous year
  • If a proposal has been declined, organizations must wait one year to reapply for funding

Submission

Review Criteria

Priority is extended to initiatives supporting children, youth, and families; immigrant populations; senior citizens; individuals at risk; people with mental and/or physical health challenges; individuals in recovery from addiction; and victims of physical abuse.
