It’s our mission to manage and conserve Colorado’s natural resources for the benefit of people today – and tomorrow. That means we have to balance development with conservation so the state we all love provides similar opportunities for our children and their children. Our diverse agencies work together to meet the recreational and resource needs of the public.
The Public Education, Participation, and Outreach (PEPO) Grant Program aims to support statewide education and outreach initiatives and to finance designated individual coordinators for basin-specific outreach and education efforts. These efforts align with each of the state's basin roundtables, focusing on promoting public awareness around water issues and supporting the Colorado Water Plan and Basin Implementation Plans. The grant program also emphasizes the importance of coordination between the PEPO Coordinators, Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB), and basin roundtables to ensure effective education and outreach activities within each basin. Additionally, funding for this program is partly sourced from the Water Supply Reserve Fund (WSRF), facilitated by the CWCB's authority to manage fund allocations. This initiative reflects a commitment to involving communities in water conservation efforts and ensuring sustainable water management practices for future generations.
