These areas include fostering an environmentally healthy Detroit and Great Lakes Ecosystem, promoting stewardship to improve water quality in specific watersheds, reducing agricultural and urban runoff to lower phosphorus levels and improve water quality, and addressing health issues such as lead exposure and asthma in Detroit and Wayne County through various mitigation efforts. Additionally, the grant supports sustainable business practices to make Southeast Michigan a leader in sustainable business, aiming for a flourishing economy, society, and environment. The program measures its impact through specific environmental and health indicators, including water quality in targeted watersheds, phosphorus loads into western Lake Erie, blood lead levels in children, incidences of asthma, and the sustainable business landscape in the region.
