Environment Program - Addressing the Freshwater Challenge Grant

Mott aims to improve transparency, accountability, and social and environmental standards at the international finance institutions that fund major energy and infrastructure projects. This involves working with the financial and environmental sectors globally to ensure projects protect the environment, deliver sustained benefits to communities, and respect the needs of nearby residents. The focus includes influencing the investment patterns of emerging economies, particularly those of Brazil and China.

Type of Support

Overview

The grant focuses on addressing the Freshwater Challenge by ensuring sustainable clean water levels for both people and the environment. It emphasizes the importance of clean water for healthy ecosystems and communities. The program has two main objectives: to strengthen the environmental community and inform the development of policies related to water quality and quantity. While grantmaking primarily targets the Great Lakes region to support a sustainable community of NGOs dedicated to freshwater ecosystem conservation, it also addresses policy issues related to water quantity in the southeast United States.
