The Heliconia Society International is dedicated to the promotion of knowledge, appreciation, and conservation of the Zingiberales through research, gardening, photography, and horticulture.
The Heliconia Society International's small grants program aims to support research on any aspects of the botany and horticulture of the Zingiberales. It targets graduate and post-doctoral students enrolled at recognized institutions. The program offers annual grants of $1,000 to aid their research. An individual researcher can receive an award only once within a three-year timeframe, encouraging the development of new projects or the extension of previously funded research after this period. Applications are accepted year-round, reviewed periodically, with decisions made within 3-4 months. Awardees gain additional benefits such as a year's free membership to the Society and opportunities to publish their work in the HSI Bulletin. A comprehensive final report and an article for the Bulletin are required deliverables to disseminate the findings and outcomes of the funded research.
