Humanities North Dakota, established in 1973, is a non-profit organization committed to providing accessible and engaging lifelong learning opportunities for out-of-school adults. Its mission is to support individuals in experiencing the benefits of lifelong learning, emphasizing the enrichment and development that humanities offer.
The Regular Humanities ND Grant Program focuses on disciplines within the humanities such as literature, history, philosophy, comparative religion, the history and criticism of the arts, archaeology, jurisprudence, linguistics, modern and classical languages, and certain social sciences employing qualitative, historical, or cultural methodologies. The goal of these grants is to deepen human understanding, probe the significance of life, and examine the structures of societies through a humanities lens. Projects supported by these grants aim to encourage critical thinking on essential questions concerning value, purpose, and meaning; foster improved understanding across different cultures and histories; advocate for a spirit of comprehensive and enlightened inquiry, offering various perspectives; involve collaborations between community entities, educational or cultural organizations, and humanities scholars; and address vital issues challenging democracy today.
