Type of Support

Overview

The Journalism & Media Grant program is designed to support U.S.-based nonprofit institutions that have national reach and influence, with occasional support for regional and place-based organizations exemplary in their field. The program operates in three main areas: Professional Nonprofit Reporting, Nonfiction Multimedia Storytelling, and Participatory Civic Media. Its objectives include strengthening media organizations and networks; addressing barriers to media creation, access, and participation; and promoting learning, leadership, innovation, and field-building within journalism and media. Additionally, in partnership with MacArthur’s Technology in the Public Interest Program, it has begun to address racialized disinformation and conspiracy, emphasizing support for journalism and media initiatives in Chicago, where the Foundation is located.
