Type of Support

Overview

The Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation supports organizations with robust community involvement, prioritizing solution-based approaches to environmental or societal problems with a commitment to long-term change. It primarily aids smaller organizations addressing issues relevant to their local communities across three central themes: Environmental Education, Arts Education for Youth, and Music Education for Youth. The foundation seeks innovative non-profits that actively engage youth and/or volunteers in projects benefitting the environment/community. It funds organizations working in visual and performing arts, media arts, community-based music programs, musical ensembles, and the acquisition, maintenance, and repair of musical instruments. The foundation awards grants ranging from $2500 to $20,000 for specific programs or general operating expenses, with Music & Arts Education grants reviewed in the fall.

Review Criteria

The bulk of our funding is allocated to one-year grants, though we occasionally disburse grants that extend over a period of up to three years. These multi-year grants are typically given to non-profit organizations with whom we have established a solid partnership and are often linked to projects that align with our prevailing funding theme.
