Review Criteria

MFF Funding Preferences Overview:

Evaluation of Value: Recognizing the challenge in measuring a charity's value directly, MFF gauges the dedication of potential grant recipients by assessing their investments in time, resources, or funds as indicators of the value they provide. Matching contributions are made by MFF to mirror the investment of the recipients.

Impact and Purpose: Charities should articulate their goals and objectives through a clear mission statement. MFF examines concrete evidence demonstrating the charity's progression towards achieving its stated mission.

Collaboration: With numerous organizations operating with overlapping objectives, MFF believes in the increased efficacy and cost-efficiency that collaboration can bring. Preference is given to organizations that partake in joint efforts with similar entities.

Sustainability: MFF looks favorably upon organizations that present a balanced financial plan, detailing their income streams, such as donations, grants, service fees, etc. A preferable financial position includes maintaining a cash reserve equivalent to one year's expenditures.

Conditional Support: MFF views pure donations with caution, as they can lead to a sense of entitlement without ensuring effective utilization. Hence, MFF supports initiatives where the beneficiaries also contribute, requiring a minimum of 10% contribution towards total costs from the recipients.

Advocacy for Bicycle Commuting: Acknowledging the multifaceted benefits of bicycle commuting, including health, environmental conservation, community engagement, and financial savings, MFF looks more favorably upon proposals that promote bicycle commuting.

Privacy in Recognition: MFF has a preference for remaining anonymous in its contributions unless operational needs dictate otherwise.

Project Preferences: While MFF primarily supports educational and environmental initiatives, it remains open to considering projects from other sectors that meet the outlined criteria.

Third-Party Evaluation: Eligibility extends to charities of varying sizes and scopes, provided they hold a minimum rating of 3 stars from Charity Navigator or a similar assessment from a reputable third-party evaluator.
