To understand and predict our changing environment, from the deep sea to outer space, and to manage and conserve America's coastal and marine resources.
The broad goal of the Atlantic Salmon Habitat Restoration Partnership Grants is to support the recovery of the Gulf of Maine Distinct Population Segment of Atlantic salmon. This grant program specifically focuses on projects that align with priority habitat restoration actions, improve fish passage and connectivity between the Gulf of Maine and freshwater spawning and rearing habitats, and incorporate proven restoration techniques with an emphasis on barrier removal. Eligible activities include feasibility studies, planning, assessments, engineering design, permitting, implementation of restoration projects, and pre- and post-implementation monitoring, along with stakeholder engagement. Proposals may be funded through multi-year cooperative agreements with federal funding ranging from $100,000 to $700,000 over three years, with a total funding request not to exceed $1.5 million over this period. The funding availability for FY24 is anticipated to be up to $700,000 for the first year of selected projects, managed by the Community-based Restoration Program within the NOAA Office of Habitat Conservation, depending on congressional allocations.
