The U.S. National Science Foundation is an independent federal agency that supports science and engineering in all 50 states and U.S. territories. NSF was established in 1950 by Congress to promote the progress of science, advance the national health, prosperity and welfare, and secure the national defense.
The Disability and Rehabilitation Engineering program, situated within the Engineering Biology and Health cluster, aims at advancing engineering and technological solutions to address challenges faced by individuals with disabilities. This includes the development of innovative rehabilitation methods, devices, or systems that improve the quality of life for persons with disabilities. This program is part of a broader cluster that also focuses on Biophotonics, Biosensing, Cellular and Biochemical Engineering, and the Engineering of Biomedical Systems, indicating a comprehensive approach to integrating engineering solutions in biological and health-related contexts. Proposals for this program are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year, allowing for the continuous exploration of new ideas in the field.
