The U.S. National Science Foundation is an independent federal agency that supports science and engineering in all 50 states and U.S. territories. NSF was established in 1950 by Congress to promote the progress of science, advance the national health, prosperity and welfare, and secure the national defense.
The NSF/FDA Scholar-in-Residence Program at FDA fosters an interagency partnership aimed at the investigation of scientific and engineering issues critical to understanding emerging trends in medical device technology. This initiative is particularly designed to help investigators in science, engineering, and computer science to develop research collaborations within the intramural research environment at the FDA. The program provides three flexible mechanisms for support of research at the FDA: Principal Investigators at FDA, Postdoctoral Researchers at FDA, and Graduate Students at FDA. This collaboration allows for advanced research opportunities that aim to significantly impact the development and assessment of innovative medical technologies.
