Overview

The Focus On Recruiting Emerging Climate and Adaptation Scientists and Transformers (FORECAST) grant program aims to transition from traditional graduate career preparation to a more student-centered approach, especially emphasizing the building of entrepreneurial and innovation capacities at Emerging Research Institutions (ERIs). It seeks to prepare a new generation of scientists, termed "Transformers", who are ready to address the challenges posed by climate change through engaged and transdisciplinary approaches. This program underlines the importance of convergent research to foster community resilience, the translation of research outcomes for societal benefits, and a broader governmental context understanding. It focuses on supporting a diverse cohort of innovative scholars from underrepresented groups in STEM by providing structured professional development opportunities. FORECAST divides its proposals into three tracks: Track 1 supports a Coordination Hub for rising seniors, Track 2 targets cohorts of Master's students at ERIs with an emphasis on mentorship and capacity building, and FORECAST Planning grants aim to build capacity at ERIs to establish future Track 2 cohorts.
