To encourage the shared prosperity of all Pennsylvanians by supporting good stewardship and sustainable development initiatives across our commonwealth.
The Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program (GTRP), established under Act 13 of 2012, directs funds specifically towards the development, rehabilitation, and improvement of public parks, recreation areas, greenways, trails, and river conservation efforts. This entails:
Public Park and Recreation Areas: Supporting the rehabilitation and development of indoor and/or outdoor public parks, recreation, and conservation facilities. This includes purchasing land for active and/or passive recreational uses, creating new recreational areas, or expanding existing ones.
Greenways and Trails: Focusing on the renovation and development of linear public amenities such as bicycle and walking paths, equestrian and snowmobile trails, and passive recreation areas. This also covers riparian forest buffers, wetland boardwalks, observation decks, and associated facilities like parking, lighting, and signage. Greenways are defined as land or water areas that serve as linear recreational, conservation, or open space corridors.
Rivers Conservation: Aiming at the enhancement of rivers, streams, and watersheds for recreational use, improving waterways for the enjoyment and benefit of the public.
The program is marked by a non-refundable $100 application fee, underscoring its commitment to serious and impactful projects relating to the outdoors and community wellbeing.
