Overview

Express Grants by South Arts are designed for rural organizations and communities to support the presentation of Southern artists across various genres including film, performing arts, literary arts, traditional arts, and visual arts. Grant awards are up to $3,000 on a first-come, first-served basis, requiring a dollar-for-dollar cash match. Eligible projects must include a public presentation and an educational or community engagement component to be considered. The program aims to facilitate transformative arts experiences and strengthen community engagement with the arts.

  • Located within South Arts’ nine-state region: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee
  • Only organizations in rural communities with a population of 50,000 or below are eligible
  • Must be a nonprofit with tax-exempt status, an official unit of local, county, or state government, or a federally recognized tribal community
  • Must have a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI)
  • Projects must take place within the nine-state region and preferably in the applicant's state (unless special circumstances are discussed with South Arts)
  • Engagement of a guest artist or company that resides in the South Arts' region is required
  • Supported disciplines include film, performing arts, literary arts, traditional arts, and visual arts
  • Cannot currently be receiving funding through South Arts' Southern Circuit program or South Arts' Presentation Grants or Traditional Arts Touring program
  • Limited to one application per South Arts fiscal year
  • Previous South Arts grant recipients must have submitted final reports and properly acknowledged South Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts' support to be considered

Organizations without a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI)
Screening partners currently funded by South Arts' Southern Circuit
Recipients of current funding from South Arts’ Presentation Grants or Traditional Arts Touring program
Applicants who haven't submitted final reports for previous South Arts grants by the deadline
Applicants not acknowledging South Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts' support properly
Projects that are benefits or fundraisers
Grants that are transferable to other events.
